The Difference Between Microneedling and Radiofrequency Microneedling
Microneedling is a popular skin treatment that helps tighten the skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and improve skin texture. However, a further development of this treatment method has emerged: radiofrequency microneedling, abbreviated RF microneedling. But what exactly is the difference between the two, and which procedure is the right choice?
What is Radiofrequency Microneedling?
RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy to the traditional microneedling treatment to further stimulate the formation of growth factors. "Energized" needles are used to create micro-perforations along the skin and deliver radiofrequency energy through these punctures simultaneously. The additional RF energy deep in the dermis amplifies the production of skin-improving proteins and enzymes such as collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.
Microneedling vs. Radiofrequency Microneedling
Both treatments have their pros and cons. Classic microneedling with the XCellarisPro Twist is a highly effective method for treating lines, wrinkles, and scars. It is also a more cost-effective option compared to RF microneedling. This treatment requires minimal downtime of up to 24 hours and is much less painful or even not painful at all.
On the other hand, radiofrequency microneedling is more effective in treating very loose skin, deeper wrinkles, and severe scars. However, it requires a longer downtime of about 2 weeks and is more painful, even after a 45-60-minutes of numbing.
Which Method is Suitable for What?
The choice between classic microneedling and RF microneedling depends on the individual skin needs and budget. If you want to address wrinkles and scars, classic microneedling may be the best option. It provides effective treatment with minimal pain and shorter downtime.
However, if there are issues with very loose skin, deeper wrinkles, or severe scars and there is a will to invest more in a more effective treatment, RF microneedling may be the right choice. It needs to be kept in mind that RF microneedling is more expensive and requires a longer downtime.
Overall, both classic microneedling and RF microneedling offer effective ways to improve the appearance of the skin. It's important to carefully weigh all options to find the best treatment for individual needs.
